4th June 2021
We are grateful for the support from the Coloma Community in continuing to wear face coverings during our Y11 and Y13 assessment period. There has been a review of the data regarding in school transmission of the Covid-19 virus in schools published today by Public Health England, which you may wish to read here:
From Monday 7th June, we will remove the requirement to wear face coverings for students and staff in classrooms and for students in communal areas. However, if students or staff wish to continue to wear a face covering in classrooms or communal areas, they may do so. The government have retained the option to reintroduce face coverings at any time should local conditions require it.
We request that all students carry a mask in their bag/pocket so that they may apply it if they need to speak to a member of staff or receive medical assistance in a place where staff cannot maintain the 2m social distance from students. Students are still required to wear face coverings on public transport and in shops and public indoor spaces as you will know.
The government have urged students to follow best practice by continuing to complete two lateral flow tests per week, particularly following this half term where they will have been in a variety of environments and mixing with people outside of their bubble. Any student who tests positive on the LFT must self-isolate until they have taken a PCR test. If this is negative, they may return to school. If it is positive, then it will be a 10-day self-isolation and we will need them to assist us in contact tracing. For clarity, Public Health advice classifies close contacts as:
- Anyone who lives in the same household as another person who has COVID-19 symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19.
- Anyone who has had any of the following types of contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19:
- face-to-face contact including being coughed on or having a face-to-face conversation within one metre.
- Been within one metre for one minute or longer without face-to-face contact.
- Been within 2 metres of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 for more than 15 minutes (either as a one-off contact or added up together over one day)
- Travelled in the same vehicle or a plane.
Any positive results from Lateral flow or PCR tests should be reported via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Any students required to self-isolate through contact tracing outside of school should report this absence to their Key Stage coordinator.
From Monday 7th June, students must return to wearing their full school uniform, including school shoes, every day. Outdoor coats/scarves may no longer be worn in classrooms as it is warm inside. As shops are now open, please ensure your daughter has the correct shoes and summer shirt. We will be re-opening our changing rooms and students will change in and out of their kit for PE. On days where PE or extra-curricular sport takes place, students may drop their kit bags in the changing rooms first thing and collect their bag at the end of the day to return home for washing.
We look forward to welcoming our students on Monday and embarking upon the final 6 weeks of term. Please take time to share the content of this letter with them so that they are fully updated on the expectations and guidance provided.
