Careers Programme Information

Welcome to the Careers Programme 2025-2026, thoughtfully sequenced and tailored to serve the needs of our young people from years 7-13, teachers, parents and employers. Our comprehensive programme encompasses Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) along with Work-related Learning (WRL), ensuring that all our pupils and sixth form students, including those with SEND or EAL backgrounds, are equipped to thrive in society as well-qualified and well-informed individuals and members of our community.

At Coloma Convent School for Girls, our overarching objective is to elevate the aspirations and achievements of all our pupils, providing them with the necessary skills, qualifications, knowledge and presentation abilities to pursue fulfilling careers and lifelong learning opportunities. Careers Programme

Our carefully curated activities and events are delivered with impartiality and tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. Through collaborative efforts with local employers, further education providers, parents, carers and teachers, we strive to offer a stable programme that effectively addresses the diverse requirements of our student body.

Our commitment is providing information from local colleges and post 16 organisations is embedded in our Provider Access Policy.

Our programme is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks, ensuring we meet the highest standards of careers education and guidance as set out in the Government’s 2017 Careers Strategy including the recent updates in 2025.

We evaluate our careers strategy and activities against the 8 Benchmarks of good careers guidance, ensuring our programme meets the diverse needs of our students. These benchmarks include:

  1. A Stable Careers Programme – A structured, well-planned programme accessible to all students and reviewed annually.
  2. Learning from Career and Labour Market Information – Providing up-to-date, impartial labour market and career data to empower informed decision-making.
  3. Addressing the Needs of Each Student – Offering tailored support to accommodate individual aspirations, SEND requirements, pupils with PP and LAC status, and EAL backgrounds.
  4. Linking Curriculum Learning to Careers – Embedding careers relevance into subject teaching, highlighting pathways and opportunities.
  5. Encounters with Employers and Employees – Organising regular interactions with industry professionals.
  6. Experiences of Workplaces – Facilitating meaningful work placements and workplace visits to provide real-world insights from Year 7 to Year 13
  7. Encounters with Further and Higher Education – Ensuring students explore a variety of post-16 and post-18 education opportunities.
  8. Personal Guidance – Providing one-to-one guidance with a qualified careers advisor.

Careers Entitlement at Coloma

Students from Year 7 to Year 13 benefit from:

  • Information on Diverse Pathways: Learning about technical education qualifications, apprenticeships and other non-academic routes to employment, alongside academic options.
  • A full suite of careers lessons delivered in PSHE. (See Careers Programme Content linked at the top of this page)
  • Provider Encounters: Hearing from colleges, training providers and employers through events such as assemblies, career talks, group discussions and taster sessions.
  • Workplace and Higher Education Experiences: Engaging with employers, employees and higher education institutions through visits, mentoring and work experience opportunities with different sized organisations.
  • Application Support: Developing the skills to effectively apply for post-16 and post-18 opportunities, including technical and academic courses, to make well-informed choices.
  • Systematic recording of pupils’ participation in the programme: we log events pupils have taken part in on Unifrog which pupils can show parents.

  • Ms Tucay, Assistant Headteacher and Careers Lead: With prior experience in recruitment in London, Ms Tucay brings valuable insight to her role after transitioning into teaching. She was awarded the Postgraduate Award in Careers Leadership at Warwick University with Distinction in 2024.
  • Mr Pawel Krzemienski, School Governor: Mr Krzemienski, with a keen interest in careers, serves as an integral member of our governing body.
  • Mrs Bumford-Sinclair, Headteacher: Responsible for overseeing the Careers Lead and ensuring quality assurance within our programme.
  • Ms Anderson, Careers Lead is responsible for implementing and evaluating our Careers programme.
  • Mrs Nathan, Head of PSHE is responsible for the careers curriculum planning and delivery.
  • Ms Claudia LasiteQualified Careers Advisor: Hailing from the esteemed careers organisation, Prospects, Ms Lasite offers expert guidance to our students.

Feedback

Monitoring and Evaluation

We monitor and evaluate our careers programme with regular feedback from pupils, teachers, staff members, governors and employers. We various methods for evaluating the impact of our programme. For example. we work closely with the South London Hub to check our compliance with Gatsby Benchmarks, we collect impact statements in group sessions for how we can improve our programme, we collect feedback where pupils evaluate their learning via Unifrog feedback. We collect data from Unifrog on participation in work experience for example for evaluation using Compass+. Additionally we ask for feedback from teachers, staff members, governors and employers to help us improve our provision.
